I've been wondering if this Judith Miller thing is good or bad in the long run. A British columnist, Mr Rees-Mogg wrote in an op-ed piece in the Times of London that the case against Scooter Libby hurts the freedom of the press and no journalist will be safe in the future.
Still, if it was Scooter who outed Valerie Plame... I think it's a crime and he knew it.
Lots of things about "Dick Cheney's Dick Cheney" I didn't previously know: like he is an acclaimed novelist. Lewis Libby's novel The Apprentice sold out on amazon.com very quickly after the news of his indictment tended to mention in the passing that all quality newspapers had praised his 1996 thriller set in 1903 Japan.
Some Conservatives are claiming that the fact that Libby was chosen as a fall guy for everything that had gone wrong in the Bush Administration is the result of an anti-semitic conspiracy. I didn't know Cheney's now former chief of staff was Jewish.
I don't know about that but it's an interesting thought that Scooter Libby who's been thrown to the wolves stands out for being Jewish and Harriet Miers who was sacrificed for the unity of the Republican Party stands out for being a woman. This is nothing typical for the Bush Administration but there is a pattern that makes one think that WASP males are always better protected by everybody and always get somebody to their rescue.
I suppose Tom DeLay is a WASP male. We'll see what happens to him. Maybe it's not always the odd ones out who take all the blame.
